Occasional FPS fluctuations while playing, PC reboot resolves the problem
Hey everyone! Let's get straight to it. I've noticed a big drop in FPS—from 90–100 to 20–40, quite a jump! This issue shows up in games like Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, CS:GO, League of Legends, and Dead Island. I think we should prioritize fixing Steam/Valve titles first; once those are stable, everything should improve.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Updated Windows and drivers
- Cleaned internal parts for dust
- Checked temperatures during gameplay (49–60°C/64°C and 39–40°C idle)
- Ran Bitdefender 2015 – results unknown
- Used max settings in games; graphics card seems capable
- Installed and cleaned case fans
- Verified PSU voltage and thermal readings are within specs
I’m still learning about PSU voltage issues, but I’ll keep checking. A full restart helped in some cases, though it didn’t fix all games. If you’re seeing similar problems, maybe a clean boot or updating drivers could help. Let me know what you think! Thanks for your help!
Started monitoring system resources using Windows built-in tools. Watched for memory consumption trends. When the usage indicator turned fully green, it suggested a memory leak likely due to an application. Noted this during performance issues.
Sam, it depends on what you're trying to achieve. Turning off XMP can sometimes help if you're looking to reduce power consumption or manage memory usage, but it might not directly fix a leak. Checking the memory issue first is usually better before making changes.
Oh Yeah! thank you very much sam! I'm at work I'll tinker with that idea when I get home did you have this issue before? I trust you so much that I want to go home right now! lolz! hahahaah also did a memtest86 on both ram modules individually no errors or conflicts found.
And occasionally it occurs during launches or in games, though not always. It happens unpredictably or not at all. That really surprises me. Thanks again Sam, I’ll look into the memory usage with the system resource monitor.
I wrap up all tasks before stepping into the gaming realm! Haha, no extra windows—just Steam launching and the game opening smoothly with Bitdefender handling the background.
