Occasional complete system failures during gaming sessions.
Hello! I have a query for you all. I own a refurbished PC from a year ago. It has a 240Hz monitor at 1080p, though I rarely set it to that speed. During a Black Ops II session, the system would completely restart, ending up with a motherboard splash screen and then back. The same occurred when playing Blade and Sorcery—it just crashes. I’m familiar with some PC details but not sure how to fix this shutdown issue. Here’s the breakdown of the components: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, Nvidia GTX 1070-Ti, Samsung 860 Evo 250GB SSD, Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 with 2x8GB RAM, Asus PRIME B350-PLUS motherboard, and a KINGWIN MK-650w PSU (looks like an old power supply). The builder used a large case with fans on both front and back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Edited June 15, 2023 by atrocitus. Updated with new info.
Located the initial ad on the marketplace platform: 16GB RAM paired with two 8GB modules, 500GB SSD, AMD Ryzen 5 6-core processor, Corsair liquid CPU cooler, Nvidia 1070 Ti graphics card, and a 650W power supply unit.
I noticed it's also a water-cooled CPU cooler, though I haven't handled it or any related parts before. The main point is whether you should keep maintaining water-cooled CPU blocks.
It might be either the power supply unit (PSU) or the graphics card (GPU). Look at the temperatures and review Windows logs for any warnings. These often show general issues but can guide you. Update your drivers. As others noted, a random shutdown is commonly linked to a PSU problem. I experienced this with a low-quality 650W bronze EVGA PSU; switching to a better 750W model resolved the issue. Hope this helps!
