I own two monitors (HP 27xq and Asus TUF VG27WQ) linked to my PC via a KVM. After upgrading from a GTX 1060 6GB to an RX 7700 XT, I experience occasional black screens when launching games like AOE2 DE on the primary monitor. Prior to the upgrade, everything functioned perfectly. I replaced the GPU, motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Earlier troubleshooting steps included a basic restart, driver updates, BIOS refresh, reinstalling games, disabling all AMD utilities, resetting BIOS settings, reinstalling AMD utility, adjusting Windows settings. When the HP becomes the primary display in Windows and the game runs there, no issues arise (indicating the KVM may be faulty). Connecting the Asus monitor directly to the GPU bypasses the KVM and resolves the problem (suggesting the issue lies elsewhere). Changing cables doesn’t help; the HP monitor works with all cables, while the Asus one does not. Adjusting display settings to reduce bandwidth usage didn’t resolve the matter. I attempted various resolutions: 1080p at 60Hz 8-bit, VRR, VSR, FSR, Freesync, HDR, and other AMD features turned off. This helped in some games but not in AOE2. Switching monitors to windowed or borderless mode sometimes fixed the issue, as did enabling Vsync. Opening Netflix on a second monitor while using the first caused problems only when the stream was fully loaded (possibly due to HDCP). Starting Spotify also triggered errors before. I experimented with different GPU ports and found that each monitor has only one DP port, yet some games functioned natively. Changing graphics drivers occasionally resolved it. Current specs: Before upgrade – Intel i7 7700, Asus Z270F motherboard, 16GB Corsair 3200MHz, GTX 1060 6GB. After upgrade – Ryzen 5 5700X3D, Gigabyte B550 GAMING X V2, 32GB Corsair 3600MHz, RX 7700 XT. Other devices remain unchanged. All drivers and BIOS are up to date. No overclocking except XMP Windows 11 64-bit (upgraded from Windows 10). I’m not running a fresh install. Regarding the KVM and monitors: Asus model runs DP 1.2, supports 1440p at 165Hz with 10bit, HDR, IPS; HP uses DP 1.2, 1440p at 165Hz, 8bit, VA. The KVM has no utilities or drivers installed, essentially acting as a plug-and-play device. Recent suspicions point to potential bandwidth limitations, possibly due to the Asus monitor’s HDCP handling or cable configuration. Issues with Netflix/Spotify seem linked to HDCP restrictions. VRR and other AMD settings were disabled, which helped in some games but not others. I’m willing to discuss further or provide more details if needed, and am open to a call for clarification. [I prefer not to replace monitors as Asus uses IPS, HP VA.]
