Hey there! I’m new here and just started setting up my new PC about three months ago. Suddenly, around a week later, while I was just chatting on Discord, my screen went black and the machine restarted. At first I thought maybe I’d messed up something, but it kept happening—three times in a row this past Sunday. This time, I was installing a game on Steam in the background. Now it’s happened again once, and I’m really unsure what’s going on.

I’ve checked everything: drivers are updated, CPU and GPU stress tests passed, and I ran MemTest twice (not the full suite). I’ve got all the specs listed below:

- CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X
- GPU: RX 6900XT
- RAM: G.Skill Flare X F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5
- Motherboard: MSI PRO B650P WiFi
- PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-1000
- OS: Windows 11 64-bit (version 10.0.22621)
- BIOS: 7D78v11 (beta version 7D78v134 is available online)

I tried disabling PBO in the BIOS, but I’m not sure that will help. I’m a bit worried because my BIOS isn’t super old—only a few years—and there’s a newer beta release out there. No spare parts to test, so I’m at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

They’re offering it away for free at Microcenter. The AM5 setup had some issues before the replacement fixed it.

Yes, RAM can trigger resets while still passing both memtest86 and prime95 tests. You've already confirmed this by running the stress test.

I think so. My system is working perfectly now after just changing the memory. Your problems look quite similar to what I encountered, and it seems you had the same exact configuration. Of course, there could be other factors at play, but it appears you've covered all bases. Have you replaced the RAM/EPS/ATX cables on both ends? Make sure everything is securely connected. If the issue persists, try using the "beta" BIOS. If that doesn't resolve it, consider swapping in a new, higher-quality RAM module—even though I've built many rigs and tried various parts myself, I ended up replacing the faulty one.

Yeah, I did reseat the ram the first time it happened and thought that might've fixed it since it took so long to happen again. I'll check my cables again tomorrow, quite sure I plugged them in correctly but you never know I guess. I'll try the new bios if the reset happens again (I assume it will eventually) and maybe send the ram back to my retailer for replacement. I'm not from the US (or CA since I think they also have microcenters) so I had to pay for that ram lol. Thanks for your replies! If anyone else has any suggestions, I'll still read them

Oh lord, if that's true, I'd just swap the RAM entirely if the store lets it.

To the best of my understanding, they’ll simply provide me with the identical package once more. It could also rely on their evaluation of the kit, which would be problematic given these unpredictable restarts.
