Hey there, I'm just an OC trying to stress test my 10700k CPU. I'm using prime95 with p95-79 and p95v307b9. I keep crashing after the blend option is selected. When the test starts with thread number 2, it crashes around 6 minutes in, and the temperatures jump to 86°C. I think small FFT operations might be the culprit. The OC says all cores are 5 GHz with no AVX offset, IO is 1.2, SA is 1.2, and LLC is 5. They also mentioned switching from a 7700k to a 10700k and noticed much higher temps—max 90°C in Cinebench R23, which seems too high for my workload. Running a custom loop with 480mm radius push/pull at 280 rads on an Alphacool VPP 655 under full load in a watercooled 2080 Super seems intense. Maybe I need better cooling or higher airflow? Any suggestions? Thanks!
It's basically not worth the effort anymore. Just push the highest possible frequency you can get—around 1.2GHz, which is roughly 4.6 to 4.8GHz. If you need better CPU speed, overclocking RAM is the way to go instead. It avoids overheating issues and keeps power costs down. What RAM are you using? If you have a solid RAM with quality dies, overclocking makes it very valuable. For details on your RAM die, try the thaon burner.
This setup isn't the same as before, but it's still enjoyable for me. I'm even considering a deli for my 10700k. I've got a 3200MHz Trident z RGB C16 with 32GB storage.
Verify the thermal paste and mounting pressure. If not, consider using AVX offset to handle AVX tasks specifically.
i can easily reach 5ghz on my e8400, but the problem is cooling. My board performs poorly even with a BIOS update (p5q)—max around 570 MHz when using Giga, DRIF, and BIOS. Older models had more headroom because they used lower stock clocks. Once you hit 5ghz, gains become minimal due to diminishing returns. Unless you have a high-end chip, pushing above 5ghz is likely pointless. For my e8400 it’s around 4.3 GHz with 1.32V, while the 10900k claims 5ghz at 1.2V. I assume since the 10700k is just a lower version of the 10900k, it will run about 200 MHz slower at the same voltage. Check your RAM in the burner—if it dies, you’re done; otherwise, you’re in good shape if you have Samsung or Micron chips.
mounting pressure is fine, also thermalpaste is fine(kryonaut) but I have read that the 10700k runs hot...
