I've noticed my Ryzen 5 2600 isn't performing well lately, so I went overclocked it. I'm using the standard 'Wraith Stealth' cooler and swapped out the original thermal paste for Noctua's NT-H1 before doing the overclock. At 4GHz with a voltage of 1.34375V, gaming sessions stay under 65°C, and under full load it remains below 80°C. Is this typical? How effective is the stock cooler in this setup?

Great outcome. It's unexpected your temperatures are so low given the voltage you're applying, but I think your setup likely has adequate airflow. If your overclock remains steady and boosts performance, excellent effort!

I also tested 1.3375V initially, though it showed slight instability. Performance improved by about 5-10% across different games. The stock cooler really caught my attention and has already helped me save some money.

Above 4GHz causes problems on most R5 2600s. Running it at 4GHz with 1.325V should work fine if you haven’t tested Cinebench yet and see the temperatures.

I don't agree—my setup achieves 4.1 at 1.375V with adequate cooling and power, and most chips handle 4.2 if you exceed "daily driver" levels. Still, 4 flat is quite strong on the stock cooler. Have you tried it with more demanding tasks like prime95 or Cinebench R23?

Sure, in games everything runs smoothly. It can run into issues only when using a Cinebench loop. I managed to boost my 2600’s score to R20 with just the stock cooler and thermal paste—though it did spike to 100°C a few times. Still, scores are what matter.

I attempted Cinebench R15 and R20, but I can't recall the temperatures from when I ran them a few days back—they were likely in the high 70s to low 80s. I’ll try Cinebench R23 next.

You might be right, but I don't usually run Cinebench loops for long hours daily. I’d prefer temperatures below 85°C, which is why I stopped pushing it. I think I could reach around 4.1Ghz and a bit more voltage, but the stock cooler wouldn’t handle it well.

That's why I avoid going beyond 4GHz, because at that frequency you can achieve quite low voltages.
