OC locked and stable performance confirmed for Ryzen 7 3800X.
I can boost the performance of my Ryzen 7 3800X without any issues, cooling stays under control, but the challenge is maintaining stable speeds during idle. Overclocking too much keeps it locked at that high setting. I've adjusted settings in UEFI and Windows, tried power options, but nothing resolves the problem. I'm considering resetting to default settings to fix the issue.
Overclocking means adjusting the default speed of your CPU beyond its standard setting. It differs from the boost clock, which is a short-term high-speed mode. If you want a slower speed, you must adjust the BIOS settings accordingly.
It seems there’s no option to change the base or keep performance high, but you might find a method to tweak the turbo settings for more intensity.
You can activate the PBO (Precision Boost Override) which lets you set the max boost clock slightly higher than stock settings (with no guarantee of actually turboing any higher than before). Plus on many motherboards there is also a setting that let's you increase the current/ power limits of the CPU which means it's able to maintain boost clocks slightly longer (I don't recall right now how it's called in the UEFI of my board). But these settings give you nowhere near the performance gain of "real" overclocking. Still it's free and effortless so I activated them.
