He built a setup with a Ryzen 7 2700X and an ASUS ROG B450-F motherboard. It wasn't what I suggested for CPU or RAM, but it worked. I'm curious about how the processor would function in this configuration. The specs include an 8-core, 4GB RAM system with a 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance RAM and an AMD RX 5700 GPU. The case uses Corsair Obsidian, and the build includes a 1TB M.2 SSD, a 1TB HDD, and a 250GB SSD. The PSU is a 550EVGA 80+ Bronze unit.
All B450 boards are compatible with the 2700X from the factory memory. CPU cores aren't ideal, but GPU performance is decent if it's a blower card.
The 2700x starts strong enough, but pushing it further offers minimal improvement and can even reduce performance.
It seems the cooler isn't working properly, so I might need to adjust the BIOS and OC settings a bit. The PSU and power delivery might be limiting performance, so it's probably not ideal to overclock the CPU.
Reduce the voltage on the 2700X slightly to manage heat output, allowing it to stabilize boost clocks more naturally. Concentrate on memory optimization. I achieved a 0.100 negative voltage offset and set the LLC to level 2 on my Asus X470 board, enabling all cores to run at 4GHz while the faster ones occasionally reach 4.1 under load. Single cores easily sustain 4.3 and maintain it. Peak temperatures reached 92°C during the highest measurement (tctl) using the Wraith Prism cooler with adequate case ventilation. The standard cooler performs adequately, but it struggles when you push significant voltage and heat through the CPU unless stability is a priority.
