I’m experiencing this odd phenomenon where certain surfaces display a shimmering, sparkly appearance under specific conditions. It’s most noticeable on reflective materials like shiny floors, mirrors, silver finishes, and water—especially when my character moves. The effect looks like a faint haze of tiny pixels or dots glowing. When I’m stationary, it’s less clear but still present. I also notice strong anti-aliasing and distortion issues, particularly with foliage that can resemble a hologram. Everything else—characters, UI, weapons—appears normal. I suspect the problem might stem from adjustments made in the Nvidia control panel. As a beginner in PC gaming, tweaking settings can be tricky; it’s possible I’ve gone backward instead of forward. I’m thinking about resetting everything to defaults and checking if my monitor is contributing to the issue. My setup includes a 1440/144 Samsung curved display, an RTX 2060, i5 10400f, and 16GB RAM—still on the lower side for that resolution. There are minor variations when switching between pre-set monitors like Cinema, TV, or Gaming, but it only slightly hides the problem. I’m sorry for not sharing screenshots; they’d really help. Thanks for your time—I appreciate your advice.
If this matches what you're experiencing, it's unclear whether I can assist or if your setup is the problem. Is HDR turned on? This appears to exacerbate the issue. I notice small sparkles that are most visible in dark scenes, especially in the latest Resident Evil games (RE2, 3 & 7). I've tested various cables, bypassed my AVR and connected directly to the screen, adjusted NVIDIA settings and drivers without success.
Meaningfully speaking, not every game is the same—some stand out more than others. Flight Simulator had a rough time due to excessive reflections, similar to Control. On the flip side, games like Wolfenstein 2, Fortnite, Warzone, and Grid seem to shine. It’s frustrating when certain titles fall short.
