Observing system failures in Prime95
I've been working on fixing this computer for several days. The system runs an i5-6600 with the built-in cooler. I'm running stress tests with Prime95 and temperatures reach 100°C. The CPU throttles to 26°C when idle, but it crashes before I can finish the test. After replacing the RAM, the issue persists. Is it typical for the stock cooler to hit such high temps? It seems to start getting this heat on test two in Prime95, and it no longer causes a blue screen—just powers down.
And you're surprised it shuts off? Would you prefer the CPU taking serious damage? I mean, what do you expect from the stock cooler? Throwing repeatedly Prime95 at a system that struggles to stay cool and stable is not really sensible. The Tjunction of that generation of desktop chips is 100°C. Idle temps are mostly irrelevant. If you suspect some defect you need to fix the thermal issues first before torture testing it with Prime95.
You're using a stock cooler to keep things cool, but it's pushing the CPU to its maximum temperature, which could cause the system to crash.
Well hold on there, it's not just one or the other. - Hyper 212 - NH-D15 These have better performance than most AIOs And for reference Prime95 is literally a torture test, not a realistic test of daily use Superposition is free but it's mostly gpu heavy
It varies based on your testing goals. For memory checks, use MemTest86. Cinebench offers a broad evaluation of CPU and memory. Furmark provides intensive GPU stress, while 3DMark serves as a comprehensive performance assessment. No specific error was mentioned, so no direct advice given.
