It's not feasible they can alter it. They'd need to delete current software, and even though Microsoft might be able to access your PC remotely, they won't change versions or remove programs. It seems this setup has always been Windows N, or you installed via the N installation media (USB/CD).

The label on the computer indicating it can't run games anymore reads "Windows 7 Pro for OEM Software." After several fresh installations, I ended up downloading the 'N' version since no other professional edition was available. I first noticed this about 4 to 5 months ago and didn’t pay much attention until it started becoming bothersome. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Not personally. To avoid losing your system, you could create a backup partition and install from a verified Windows 10 version instead of the unofficial one. That’s the best approach I’ve considered if the media packs aren’t functioning.

Sure, I believe you're capable of it.

Download the Windows Media Player Classic codecs pack from downloads.com. Add it to Programs, then go to Components—WMP should be listed. I previously installed Minesweeper from this site and after a WRT54G brick, I needed TFTP from there. It worked, though I’m still puzzled about the process. Setting my IP static and using TFTP as a gateway completed the firmware update and turned the red lights green. The 2MB TFTP file took an hour to transfer. There are some useful features in Add Components.

Using the Microsoft media creation tool and selecting an upgrade option means the ISO includes all available versions. At the beginning of installation, you pick a category like pro/home/n. When prompted for a product key, select "I don't have one." The digital license activates automatically when connected to the internet. If entitlement problems arise, you can reinstall 7 Pro and upgrade to 10 Pro still, provided the issue persists.

This was very useful! You must select the first choice ("Windows 10") when using the media creation tool.
