I've been using my MSI MAG274QRF-QD IPS monitor for about six to eight months now, and it's been getting noticeably dim. I've tried several fixes: increased brightness to maximum, set contrast at 70%, ensured default colour profiles are active, turned off HDR, installed the latest firmware (version 022), re-flashed if needed, and disabled HDCR, MPRT, and reset everything to factory settings on the display OSD. I also adjusted the brightness slightly higher in the Nvidia control panel and set colour temperatures close to 100 for better output. The screen remains dim enough to make reading text difficult, but not completely unreadable. My older Acer TN monitor was brighter, so I’m puzzled about what changed. MSI contacted me about returning it for warranty, but it’s out of warranty now, so that option isn’t available. I’m wondering if flashing the EDID file could help, though I don’t know where to find it or if MSI provides it online.

I adjusted the gamma slightly and observed the changes. A tailored monitor profile could help, along with the calibration feature, to see if boosting gamma or other settings enhances brightness. I tried this on a previous monitor that was quite dark.

I think the backlight is failing, likely due to a failing capacitor. That’s a big disappointment. Was there a repair cost mentioned for fixing it?

Sure, I'll send it in first. It's a bit disappointing when a quote isn't given right away. The monitor works but isn't doing its best anymore. I've adjusted the color, gamma, brightness, etc., just to squeeze out more performance. Also, when it's idle it stays on and doesn't turn off completely—so I end up putting the system to sleep all the time instead of keeping it running.

It's clear the device is struggling, but good news—it looks like replacements remain affordable.
