Observation Sudden stuttering at high frame rate
Observation Sudden stuttering at high frame rate
If anyone has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm struggling now. I can play for 1-2 hours before the issue begins, during which the GPU stutters and makes unusual sounds, including coil whine that fluctuates. After a few minutes of alt+tab, everything returns to normal. I've attached a graph from Afterburner showing the stuttering behavior.
The GPU is one and a half years old and has only been used for light gaming. It tends to overheat, but when I switch tabs it cools down and functions normally again. I’m not sure it’s overheating because the maximum temperature stays around 70°C, and it seems like the GPU clock reduces at some point as a protective measure.
Issues that arise later often point to temperature control problems.
What are the specifications of your CPU cooler and case?
Begin hwmonitor, it will track the current, lowest, and highest CPU temperatures.
During your issue, check those temps.
The lowest should stay between 10-15°C relative to the room temperature.
If it's significantly higher, cooling system may be faulty.
A maximum of 100°C indicates the CPU has limited performance to prevent damage, which is likely causing the lag.
Note: userbenchmark is sometimes dismissed as unreliable.
CPU is watercooled and stays below 60°C, operating at 34°C in idle. Temperatures were checked using HWmonitor, OCCT and other programs; the highest recorded was 88°C at the GPU hotspot, with a GPU temperature of 70°C. The case is open during testing, indicating no airflow problems. I’m pretty sure it’s not an overheating issue, unless those 70°C and 88°C readings are excessive for this GPU, which I don’t think they are.
It might be possible that the thermal throttle is occurring at the VRAM level, not the GPU or CPU level.
