Observation on Apparent Excessive Heat in Device Pc
I began experiencing overheating problems a few months back and resolved it by removing the clear cover from my case. I’ve owned my GPU for more than two years without any overheating issues until now. Recently, however, the problem has become more frequent, forcing me to constantly use a fan to prevent damage. A quick dusting with compressed air helped only marginally. I’m considering a thorough cleaning soon, which would involve disassembling the PC and cleaning each component individually. When it overheats, the monitors shut down and fans run at full speed. Usually, I check the GPU for heat afterward, but this morning I was using the PC without any graphics-intensive games, and the shutdown occurred with fans at maximum. I tested the GPU by touching it, finding it cool to the touch, and the CPU heatsink also cold. I’m wondering why it falsely detects overheating when it’s not, and what steps should I take. Could this be linked to a virus I’ve had before? Should I replace my case for better airflow? My current specs are: GPU – MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING 8G, CPU – AMD Ryzen 3 3200G, MBD – B450M Pro4, PSU – Redragon RGPS GC-PS002 600W.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
What is the make and model of your case? How many fans are inside, and what is their direction?
Power Supply: Redragon RGPS GC-PS002 600W Gaming PC Power Supply
This unit doesn’t seem very well constructed, and I think your PSU might not be suitable for your build.
If I were you, I’d clean the GPU thoroughly. Have you done a clean install of your GPU drivers using DDU in Safe Mode? Are you installing the newest driver from Nvidia’s support site, with elevated privileges?
I am not able to provide the exact case model and make because it no longer exists, and I don't have any information about it. The nearest alternative is the MASTERBOX Q300L MINI TOWER PC CASE shown in the attached photo.
Please let me know if you're mistaken, but I'm uncertain whether the power unit is the problem. My experience is from using a 970 starting in late 2020 to early 2021, which worked well, then upgraded to a 1070 from a friend that also performed perfectly until recently.
Do the PSU have a temperature sensor that stops the PC when it overheats? If yes, I assume the issue is likely dust accumulation. I haven't encountered GPU overheating or crashes before. Would a complete reset of the PC be an effective solution? If so, that seems like the best course of action based on your suggestion.
Thanks for your help.
