Observation of Unusual Memory Card Reader Actions
. When I connected it, Windows 11 showed USB Drive (D
, USB Drive (E
, USB Drive (F
, and USB Drive (G
. Is this typical? Could it be adjusted so that only the correct drive appears when inserting media to prevent confusion?
, while other times only "USB Drive (E
" was shown. In both cases, drives D, F, G were visible without the card. Was this normal?
Hello, I purchased a Benfei Simultaneous 4-IN-1 Memory Card Reader. On the first day, when I inserted an SD card into it, I encountered an "Error Checking" error that I haven’t experienced with any other SD card reader. Trying to click Repair didn’t fix the issue and the "Error Checking" kept appearing. This happened with both a SanDisk Ultra 32GB and a SanDisk Extreme 64GB cards. A few days later, when I inserted a different type of card, the same error appeared but this time Repairing resolved it. Should I be concerned? Is there anything wrong with the reader? Additionally, some other unusual behaviors:
1. Without the reader connected to the Windows 11 PC, my PC displayed only Local Disk (C
. When I connected it, Windows 11 showed USB Drive (D
, USB Drive (E
, USB Drive (F
, and USB Drive (G
. Is this typical? Could it be adjusted so that only the correct drive appears when inserting media to prevent confusion?
2. When I inserted the Ultra SD card, sometimes the card name appeared followed by (E
, while other times only "USB Drive (E
" was shown. In both cases, drives D, F, G were visible without the card. Was this normal?
the drives showong up is normal, i think it's a windows option to only show media which is inserted and not all available. Optical drive would disappe6then as well, if no cd/dvd is inside.
would get a different reader, if it's not hot plug able.
usually you have to tell windows that you will remove a SD card, did you do this before?
Do you want to know if it's preferable to choose another reader? Should I check if hot-plug is the feature you're interested in?
I recently purchased a very inexpensive multi card reader on AliExpress, but it couldn't read modern 64GB Sandisk Compact Flash cards or 128GB UHS II SD cards. It functioned properly with older 8GB Kingston CF cards bought in 2009 and older low-capacity SD cards. This wasn't an issue since it was just a backup for someone using an EOS 350D from 2006.
I typically use Kingston card readers (FCR-HS3 and FCR-HS4) for CF, SD and microSD cards, and they perform well. However, they should cost significantly more than the AliExpress product. Other reliable options include Lexar and Sandisk. A CF Express reader is expected to be even more expensive.
