Yes, this feature is listed in your manual. It operates using Hybrid Power, which functions on a 130W power source. This setup leads to the problems you described because it depends on the battery that isn't present here. Using the 180W power supply Dell provides will resolve the issue.

This scheme is designed to trick them into supplying a power supply that won’t actually work for the system.

There are benefits since the 130W power brick is compact and lightweight, making it easier to carry. Assuming you have a functional battery, the 130W unit performs well. Taking the battery out of a laptop completely alters its design and moves it far from the engineers' original plan. The battery also acts as structural support and helps balance weight, adding complexity. Notably, the original Droid phone could operate without a battery, plugging directly into a charger, whereas most modern smartphones require it. Laptops are trending toward this setup as well.

The problem was the battery acting up and getting swollen, so it had to be taken out. Now I can't find an OEM replacement from Dell. I'm likely considering a new charger and battery, hoping to get the computer running again like new. Thanks for the help—I didn’t read the manual when I first got the laptop because at that time its performance was WAY better than anything I’ve used, and I was too excited to read it LMAOO.

I wasn't anticipating this, but it does make sense given the original setup of hybrid versus pure power. It seems the strain from game loads using the hybrid system might have caused the swelling, which then affected performance. On top of that, I found it intriguing and enjoyed figuring it out!

Most likely, its a horrible way to design it as it guarantees the battery will wear out faster. Quite apart from the fact it makes the chance that your battery wont be fully charged when you need it a whole lot higher.

Yes, a swollen battery might damage the motherboard, break the track pad (particularly if it's glass), and in the worst case, just crack the case. It really comes down to understanding you had no other options.

Absolutely, I'm glad I noticed it early. Just one cell was getting bigger and the next one had begun.
