Observation of multiple USB disconnections during operation.
Observation of multiple USB disconnections during operation.
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure about the best way to share this or exactly how to explain the problem I encountered. I bought a custom pre-built unit, and everything functioned fine for almost a year until I started noticing the USB connect sound. It’s something that keeps bothering me.
At first, I assumed it was related to the icue and armoury crate, then hwinfo64. While the disconnections occurred, the CPU block lights would turn red after a few restarts. It would come back afterward. I read numerous posts from different forums and tried various fixes—uninstalling programs, checking if the device was turned off, checking for C-states—but nothing changed.
Eventually, I gave up and reached out to tech support. They asked me to remotely log in to inspect the issue, hoping it was something simple. Since I mentioned I wanted them to send it back, they suggested recording the process in real time and sharing screenshots. They said they couldn’t find any USB problems but replaced the CPU, claiming they discovered a fault and sent it back with an updated BIOS.
In February this year, the problem started again. I thought it might not be related to icue and ended up checking my motherboard—ASUS ROG Strix Z690-F DDR5. I’ve read so many posts about this that it’s making me feel discouraged. Most of the time, the main disconnect happens with the Commander Core XT, but sometimes it’s headset USB or the USB game controller. It doesn’t always occur under load, sometimes right after I power on the PC.
I contacted them again and asked if they could remotely inspect it, but they insisted on returning it. They said they couldn’t recreate the issue since they couldn’t do it the last time.
I feel like they’ll probably just replace the motherboard, but reading more posts doesn’t seem to solve it. I also feel confused because this doesn’t appear to be an exclusive ASUS problem.
I have no clear direction now. Honestly, I’m really lost. I came across a program called USB Tree Viewer, and the USB port connected to the Commander Core was flashing green. I’m not sure what the information means, but anyone could help clarify or provide insight.
I also have a few questions about Bluetooth and devices—seems like I have a Commander Core and a Commander Core XT. Is this normal? Why would there be two versions?
In the same settings, I see multiple devices listed—like a receiver for the mouse. Is that normal?
Thanks in advance.
Also, sorry if my post is a mess. Or I could just upload images of the event viewer or anything and hope someone notices something that might help.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Are there any entries in Device Manager marked with a yellow exclamation mark? Regarding your motherboard, what is the current BIOS version? For your prebuilt's cooler, I'd look for alternatives that address the same problem, maybe switching to an air cooler without USB features.
Hi, thank you for the update. Right now there are no yellow exclamation marks during the week. Device Manager in bus controllers reported an unknown USB device descriptor request failed, but I followed the sfc/scannow and it resolved. The main issue appears to vary, often with different ports each time. BIOS version 2802.
I couldn't even reach around 30 seconds into a game without the commander xt disconnecting. Here are some images of the USB view and a picture of the commander; everything looks to be plugged in correctly. https://imgur.com/a/oBCE1ue View: https://imgur.com/a/oBCE1ue
It appears to work when not detected in the icue or if the driver is broken. I’m not sure, but based on other people’s posts it might be the stock settings that prevent the cooler from controlling the CPU lighting. As a last option, I bought an internal USB hub 2.0 from nzxt because I heard it could help, but I’m not sure how to install it and don’t have much experience. Could anyone explain the installation in simpler terms? Thanks.
