Hey guys, I’ve finally calmed down and here I am.
About four months back, I decided to upgrade my graphics card, so I picked the Gigabyte Windforce 4070 Super, which replaced my 2060 Super Founders Edition.
Since then, I’ve experienced occasional black screen issues—whether I’m just sitting on the desktop or playing a game. Sometimes it flashes twice or three times in a few minutes, or it just gives me a seizure from the intense flashes.
I ran a clean GPU driver install, but the problem kept happening. I reinstalled the 2060S and did another clean driver setup, changed cables, adjusted settings, and even looked up everything online, but nothing worked.
Now I’m really stressed, and it’s really driving me crazy. Any help would mean a lot to me.
Operating System: Win10 Home
CPU: R5 3600X
GPU(s): 2060S / 4070S
PSU: 700W Corsair PSU
RAM: 32GB 3600MHz Corsair Vengeance Pro
Graphics Card: Gigabyte Aorus Pro WiFi B450
If you need any other system details or a diagnostic test, I’ll send them over once I’m back home. Thanks!

What is the refresh rate of the monitor, its length, and the video cable type? If you reduce the Hz to 60, does the flickering cease? Could the included 12vhpwr adapter be of poor quality or generic?

What is the precise PSU rating? The only Corsair 700W model I know of is the GS700, which feels outdated in 2024.

It might be that your old PSU is failing, or there could be a problem with the display. Inspect the PSU and monitor for dust, and consider using a different cable.

It's a 120 hz monitor, I've tried reducing it to 60 and the issue still exists. I'm using a 3 or 4 foot HDMI, and it seems that's the problem. However, after switching back to the 2060S, the issue persisted before. I cleaned the PSU and the monitor, but both are quite old (4070S). I'll provide you with the exact PSU once I'm back home, but your guess is right—the PSU is likely at least 7 to 9 years old 😅. Thanks for the helpful comments, they're much more useful than anywhere else!

4 ft equals approximately 1.2 meters, so length isn't a concern. Perhaps if it were 4 meters plus and it was DisplayPort, there might be a problem with the cable quality. Issues related to quality are less common with HDMI. You're using the adapter that came with the card, right? It could be a combination of things, but I'd also think about the power supply.

It seems the 4070s might have accelerated the PSU's decline. Considering its age, it's time to replace it after all.

Just as new or? Assuming you meant the 2060s. Try testing a TV if that’s your main way to check a display while fixing issues. Make sure the HDMI cable fits properly on both the monitor and the PC. Sometimes these cables have extra, cumbersome ends.

I used the adapter that came with the 4070S, the 2060S didn’t require an adapter, and I only began experiencing problems after switching to the 4070S. I cleaned the installed drivers, but the issue kept occurring, so I switched back to the 2060S and performed another clean install, yet the problem persisted.

That was my initial thought, but I hoped for more experienced and knowledgeable advice from others.
