Now that I understand quoting, a cover is simply a protective layer. It won’t necessarily turn brown or rust unless exposed to moisture and air for long periods.

I meant it's just a metal cover with no use, it doesn't matter if it corrodes. If you're in an environment that causes corrosion then yeah it'll probably accelerate aging but it's not like there's something you can do about it. Live with it.
