Observation of CPU temperature fluctuations showing sudden increases.
I just updated and cleaned my PC, replaced the GPU, and removed the old thermal paste. I’m using what’s left from the previous paste, but I’m not sure if it was sufficient. After checking with CPUID HWMonitor, temperatures stayed around 30-40°C with occasional spikes to the package or one of the cores reaching 50-60°C. This seems unusual—I’m not sure if it’s connected to the thermal paste. I’m using a Kraken X63 cooler and a new Noctua paste (four years old). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Your recent feedback suggests the thermal paste or case heat dissipation might be the issue. Where exactly did you place your case? Also, did you ever attempt to overclock the CPU?
Chip is an i7-7700k, not something recent; I don’t recall it before the upgrade.
Sufficient for the task. A newer GPU might offer this capability, though. The 60c remains safe, even from a traditional perspective.
I'm sorry to hear that. There isn't one for you at the moment.
