I kept going until the screws halted and there were none left (as I usually do with PC stuff), and the blue peel covering the sticky bottom was taken off.

I never checked mine after installing it (same board). Still, I think giving it a try would be a good idea.

I get it, but don't rely solely on my confirmation. If bending it would cause damage, it's likely already compromised. You might want to slightly loosen the screw and test whether that resolves the issue.
