I'm using Ubuntu Budgie and have been trying to get everything working smoothly with my GPUs and Linux. Screen tearing is happening often, both when using the default compositor and with force composition pipelines. The problem seems to appear with GNOME and Budgie (not sure about others), and it's linked to driver version 440. I have an AMD 1070 Ti and an AMD 1050 Ti; the issue shows up whether one GPU is connected or both. I need both for my work. Anyone else on Ubuntu experiencing this? Do you use a different distribution without it? Any tips would be helpful.

Consider an alternative distribution that doesn't rely on resource-intensive software, perhaps an external operating system.

Consider this suggestion for your setup.

1) Edit the file: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/zz-nvidia-modeset.conf
2) Insert: options nvidia_drm modeset=1
3) Refresh the initramfs: sudo update-initramfs -u
4) Restart your system

Note: Are you relying on a custom driver from the additional drivers section?

I prefer more robust builds mainly for their stability. I spend a lot of time working on my computer and require strong support. While I don’t really like Windows, I’m happy it’s reliable. Thanks — I believe it’s been improved.
