I secured a solid friend on Steam, owns a 2500k and GTX 970. He bought MW2 on sale through G2A, and we’re doing co-op spec testing for fun. Unfortunately, he experiences FPS drops without VSync, though it runs smoothly at 60 with VSync. My 580 stays at 90 FPS and never drops frames. What’s going on?

Previous version isn't tailored for modern systems. Nvidia's drivers have always been imperfect.

It's unusual to notice that newer cards underperform on older titles; perhaps it's just a rare case.

Probably the best option.

The GTX780 performed excellently recently, achieving 200fps at 1440p with no issues. It seems the problem isn't related to Nvidia drivers.

GTX 780 could be related to issues on 900-series GPUs... I used AMD models like the 7770 earlier and noticed some driver problems with older titles.

Classic titles often take advantage of the memory controller, which performs much better on Fermi and Kepler systems.
