Nvidia driver 417.71 no working properly on Asus MG278Q
Here’s a rewritten version of the text, aiming for clarity and flow:
I’m experiencing significant issues with the new Nvidia driver (417.71) on my Asus MG 278Q monitor, which is officially certified by Nvidia. Specifically, enabling Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync causes instability – my computer frequently freezes.
The problem seems related to the driver's interaction with the monitor’s FreeSync technology. Initially, I attempted to install the driver with Adaptive-Sync enabled, but it resulted in a complete freeze near the end of the installation process. I found a workaround by disabling Adaptive-Sync during installation, which allowed me to successfully install the driver.
However, I'm still encountering several problems:
1. **Partial Screen Display:** The monitor only displays the left half of my screen, with the right side showing as black.
2. **Frozen Right Side:** Similar to point 1, but the right portion of the display is frozen.
3. **Intermittent Freezes:** My computer freezes for approximately 15 seconds at random times.
I’ve already taken several troubleshooting steps: I used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove and reinstall the driver, I performed a full operating system reinstallation, tested all display ports on my graphics card, replaced cables, and even tested the monitor with an Xbox One S – which works perfectly with FreeSync enabled.
My PC specifications are:
* CPU: Intel i5 4590
* MOBO: AsRock h97 pro 4
* GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX 1070
* RAM: Hyper X Fury blue 1600Mhz
* Monitor: Asus MG278Q
I’m hoping for suggestions, as I'm unsure of the root cause and how to resolve these issues. My friend with the same monitor experiences no problems with FreeSync.
The Windows driver service is frequently crashing, particularly since 2017. Upgrading to Windows 1803 resolves the freezing issues but leaves a persistent problem with the display being split in half. A workaround involves regularly adjusting your screen resolution.
After doing some more research i was able to find out where the issue was encountered.
It seems that a Windows service was crashing almost everytime. The service that I am talking about is the drivers specific service. It seems that there was an issue with it since 2017. IF you will upgrade your windows to the latest windows version (1803) this issue will not be encountered anymore ( I am referring to the freezing part) However you will still encounter the half screen issue which as a workaround you can close/open your change your resolution.
