I'm getting ready for the worst... My computer isn't officially compatible with Windows 11, so I'm forcing it to work. Since Microsoft is known for its support, I expect them to quickly create a workaround just before Windows 10's end-of-life. I checked a Linux Live-disk in 2024 and was surprised my system didn't run well. Actually, I couldn't test anything else either—what about any Nvidia drivers are available yet? Also, is there any hardware acceleration support for heavy graphics apps on Linux as of November 2, 2024?

It seems you're comparing performance on Linux Mint with a 3080 graphics card and correct drivers to what you'd expect from Windows—either using native Linux builds or Steam Proton emulation.

I prefer Kubuntu because their driver installer works well.

I haven't found any live boot distros that come with Nvidia drivers. You'll need to add them yourself. Linux has always been my main operating system, and I've only used Nvidia cards since downloading the driver and installing it directly—no problems encountered.

Indeed, it'll default to the neauvo(?) or whatever it's called. It's a licensing thing AFAIK.

I'm using Mint now, previously had POP and Zorin, everything worked well, though as Ohio mentioned, you need to install it or it will use a generic version.

Typically, Manjaro KDE offers an option to install Nvidia drivers either pre-installed or via a free alternative.
