Recently my system has been struggling with background tasks if I leave it running for extended periods. Upon restarting, everything feels slow or unresponsive. With so many processes active, my RAM is nearly full at 98% and behaves unpredictably until I reboot. I’m unsure if there’s a solution without having to wipe the computer and start over. I’d prefer not to reinstall Windows if possible.

Recommended to perform a fresh installation of Windows. It seems you haven't done that recently. Any minor adjustments you make only postpone the necessary work further.

For clarity, are we certain it's background processes consuming memory? If yes, which ones? By capturing the task manager during high activity, we might receive guidance beyond @Enderman's advice to "crash and rebuild." Ultimately, if the installed software is the issue, reinstalling it could resolve the problem. Also, @Enderman recommends reformatting first rather than using it as a last resort, which isn't always practical.

Adjustments have resolved the issue, and it usually saves time compared to hunting down every tiny cause of slowdown. Often the root lies in someone cloning their OS drive or upgrading Windows, making a fresh installation the best solution. Cleaning a Windows install every year is a smart habit most skip, offering a perfect opportunity to do it.

First identify what's consuming your memory. Reinstalling could help remove unwanted programs. However, if the issue stems from actively used software, it may persist.

Open Control Alt Delete, start Task Manager, choose applications and disable them. Confirm you understand what you’re turning off. Steam keeps my login info but I don’t want it active when I power on the PC. Uplay and Origin aren’t required. After finishing EA and Ubisoft titles, exit uplay or Origin to close everything.
