Hello everyone, just confirming the QVL details for the motherboard I plan to purchase for my upcoming 9800X3D build. I’ve switched to an X670E to prevent USB4 issues and ensure ample bandwidth for many M.2 drives. MSI has a note above the memory QVL: it mentions that CPU memory controller quality influences memory speed, which can affect stability and reliability, especially with higher temperatures from DDR5 modules.

Point one is clear – RAM speed may be limited by your memory controller and temperature. Point two is a bit unclear; does “partial DDR5 memory module” refer to half a stick or a dual-channel set? Clarification would be helpful.

I also noticed an Amazon listing for a Patriot Viper 32GB 2x16GB DDR5 RAM at 6400MT/s, priced similarly to a 6000MT/s CL30 model. Would the higher speed option be better for Infinity Fabric timing with the X3D chip? Thanks!

In those cases, the IMC often defaults to 4800MT/s for stability. With a matched dual-channel kit like the 2×16gb Viper Venom you linked, you should be able to run the advertised expo speeds 6000/6400 as long as the CPU’s memory controller can handle it. For Ryzen X3D chips, 6000 MT/s CL30 is generally considered the sweet spot because it keeps Infinity Fabric in sync (1:1). 6400 CL32 might run, but there’s a chance the fabric will decouple, which can increase latency and offset the higher bandwidth. If both kits are the same price, I’d lean towards the 6000 CL30 for stability and efficiency with the 9800X3D.
