Hello! I just got the Sea of Thieves installed and started playing, and right from the beginning I heard this odd whining sound. After checking online forums, I thought it might be coil whine. I recently upgraded my power supply a few months ago—switching from a 750W Thermaltake to a Corsair rm850x. So far, the game runs very quietly. I’ve also heard that some rare motherboards can produce this issue too. I’m planning to share a video of the sound if it helps. It doesn’t seem too bothersome, and it disappears once I start playing in-game. Any tips or fixes would be appreciated! IMG_4786.mp4
Absolutely, that matches coilwhine. It can't be fully resolved but can be minimized by lowering the framerate and possibly using undervolting. Coilwhine is just bothersome—it poses no risk or harm and won't shorten the product's life.

That's helpful! Some games seem to worsen the coilwhine more than others. I've experienced games that really increase GPU noise. High FPS can make the whine more obvious, especially at a higher pitch. Yes, certain cards tend to have excessive coilwhine. I had to return my MSI Ventus 2080 Super because playing Mafia 3 at 60fps locked was unbearable—just the noise. Got a new Palit 2080 Super and it works fine.
