Not updating to the 5700x3D version.
Hi there, I just upgraded my CPU from a 5600G to a 5700X3D on an Asrock B550 Phantom ITX board. The system won’t boot, lights flicker, fans spin but nothing appears on the screen. It behaves like it’s using the old CPU again. I’ve updated the BIOS to both the latest and validated versions, experimented with RAM setups, reset the CMOS, and pressed DEL, F2, Y—nothing helps. I also tried a 3060 with PCIe Gen 3 instead of Gen 4, and ran without the M.2 SSD. The 5700X3D works fine on another machine too. My video outputs are connected to the 3070, not the motherboard. Any advice? Current specs: 5600G → 5700X3D, Asrock B550 Phantom ITX, Crucial 32GB 3200 (16x2), RAM trials in both 1 stick and 8GB per slot, RTX 3070 (HP OEM) or 3060 Samsung 980 Pro 1TB EVGA 750W.
No, you didn't need to unplug the PC or leave the battery out. The CMOS reset process involves simply turning off the computer and allowing it to restart naturally.
Sure, I disconnected all components and powered down the power supply before resetting the CMOS. I left it in that state for a minimum of 10 minutes.
You've done very well for troubleshooting at this point Since you know the 5700x3D is working in another computer and that your computer runs without issue with the 5600G, there is certainly something that makes the 5700x3D bad for your computer. From experience, this can only be caused by the BIOS. I know you already upgraded the BIOS and clearly the CMOS but it is possible that the BIOS flash was faulty one way or another. My advice is to download the latest stable BIOS to another USB drive formatted FAT32 and try again. Please look carefully at the BIOS flash led to see if it indicates a BIOS flash successful or unsuccessful. Then clear the CMOS and try booting with the 5700x3D. If this doesn't work, try doing troubleshooting again. There should be some test that was overlooked. Good luck !
Thanks, but I've already tested versions 3.47 (latest beta), 3.40 (new stable), and 3.30 (validated by asrock for the CPU). I've gone through all troubleshooting steps for each one. Every time I use the old CPU, it works perfectly, and the new one in another system also functions well. I've swapped RAM and GPU between the two systems without any issues. It seems this particular setup is likely destined to fail.
It looks like you're likely directed to reach out to ASRock support. Occasionally, solutions aren't available, and the company may need to handle the issue themselves. Best of luck!
