At my microcenter I see options: a 7900x with motherboard and RAM for $600, or a 13700k with M.2 and RAM for $650. Neither price boths really appeals to me, but I’m curious which CPU performs better for gaming—especially at 1440p with a 4080 GPU. I haven’t found a clear winner yet.

It really comes down to the specific game you're playing. Certain titles rely on several CPU cores, while others function with just one. Both compete in a similar way. I recommend choosing AMD since you can keep using the motherboard for many more years compared to Intel.

They should work well for gaming. Usually x900 CPUs from AMD are often ignored because of their cost and the fact they have 12 cores instead of 8 or 16. AM5 still faces challenges with XMP and EXPO settings.

8p4 The x3d chips don’t seem to offer much value, but I prefer the IO options on the amd chip. Let me double-check the x3d offers.

For lasting value and cost efficiency, choose AMD, a 7900X with M.2 and ample RAM for 6GB looks like an excellent deal.
