I'm really into BF4 with some buddies, Wolfstein New Order is awesome! Civ5 can completely distract you from reality. Diablo3 or Blizzard's new MOBA, Heroes of the Storm (open beta), and Hearthstone are all entertaining. Max Payne 3 is quite enjoyable too. Have you played PlayerFallout3 or New Vegas? Both are solid titles.
Have you tried a MOBA? I've tried a few, but the one that stuck was SMITE . Here is SMITE 's Metacritic page compared to League of Legend 's Metacritic page . So as you can see both professional critics and users alike both rate SMITE very highly (interesting to note, it has a higher user rating than DotA 2, but critics have given DotA 2 a very strong rating as well), but that isn't my main reason why I'm recommending it. Hear me out. SMITE is what the developer called an Action Multilayer Online Battle Arena or just Action MOBA. That is where the game becomes accessible to people like you and I. First, DotA and LoL are both isometric MOBAs, where they resemble an RTS like Star Craft or Age of Empires . That usually doesn't appeal to style of most the games you've listed. SMITE , however, is an Action MOBA. Specifically it is played from the third person point of view, like Tomb Raider , Skyrim , and Middle Earth . And that is why I think you should give it a shot. While it doesn't follow your criteria in being open world or have a story line, it can easily fill some time with really joyous moments.
