Not sure what overclocking RAM means
I've been searching for a clear tutorial on overclocking RAM and haven't found one that's easy to grasp. There was one from TH a few years ago, but it used a lot of jargon I didn't understand. Could anyone recommend a better resource?
I've already increased my CPU's speed to 4.5ghz by tweaking the multiplier and adjusting the voltage. I kept the BCLK at its default 100.00hz. The guide on TomsH suggests starting with the BCLK at its highest setting before changing the RAM clock, but warns it could disrupt the overclock process. I'm not sure how that applies to my situation.
I don't get why this is so complicated! Overclocking CPUs and GPUs was easy for me.
I've configured the XMP profile in my UEFI, set the target to 2800hz (my RAM is stock at 2400) and everything works well. I'm aiming higher to improve understanding rather than performance. My system runs AAA games smoothly without problems, so it's not about speed.
Setup details:
- Intel Core i5-6600k @4.5ghz
- GTX 1070 @1950mhz
- 32gb Corsair Vengeance Lpx 2400 @2800mhz XMP
- ASRock F1tality K6
- EVGA 750+ Gold PSU
- Thermaltake P3 case
- Custom water loop for CPU/GPU
- Cyclone Evo 3 cooler on RAM (looks stylish)

It would be better to adjust those settings first before going for a ram overclock.
cpu and gpu overclocks work more efficiently than ram overclocks.
but if you're not focused on that, consider increasing the voltage (my Ripjaws V operates at 2800mhz with 1.3v) and manually adjusting the timing (I have 17 17 17 40 400T 1T).
