Hey everyone, I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade my CPU or go for a newer setup. Right now I have a 5800X3D, but my system is lagging at 1440p and I’ve stopped playing Tarkov. My specs are pretty standard, so I’m weighing a 600 NZD CPU upgrade versus a 7800X3D with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM. The 5800X3D is cheaper upfront, but the new parts might cost more and aren’t cheap here. I’m also unsure if the 5800X3D will actually help much compared to my current 3700X. Any advice?

For future upgrades, consider switching to AM5. Choose a CPU that fits your budget. Pick a motherboard from a trusted manufacturer and ensure it offers good value with solid performance and features you’ll actually use. The 5800X3D provides a significant improvement.

It mainly comes down to your budget and upcoming game goals. As the earlier user noted, switching to AM5 offers better upgrade potential, but the 5800x3D remains a strong chip that should outperform the 3700x. Compatibility and performance with Mobo shouldn't be a problem—just make sure your BIOS is up to date.

This X370 1st gen Ryzen card has performed really well over the past seven years. Tarkov seems to appreciate its 3D cache, so I’m likely to stick with it for now. Given my budget, I might just get the 5800X3D and plan to upgrade to a newer platform in a few years.

What GPU model do you own and what resolution are you using? A 5700X3D could be more manageable for your motherboard.

Your 2080Ti runs smoothly at 1440p resolution.

Retrieve the 5700X3D model. It can boost even a more powerful GPU when necessary.

The 5700x3D costs $468NZD and the 5800x3D is $548NZD. I’m a bit confused about the 5700x3D due to its clock speed—based on my understanding of Tarkov, a higher clock speed usually increases FPS. The 3D cache might add some extra difference on its own.

The 5800X3D could be worth around $20 to $50, possibly more than the 5700X3D, but it won't exceed that amount.

I would have likely chosen the 5600x3D, though it isn't available in New Zealand. The 5700X3D and 5800X3D aren't on sale right now, so perhaps I'll wait for a better deal before purchasing.
