Hi, I understand you're dealing with a PWM fan setup on your motherboard. The Gigabyte Z590 Vision has the PWM cable connected to Sys_fan, while the VDG cable is linked to D_LED. You mentioned uncertainty about which cable goes where and that the board doesn't recognize the fans in BIOS or OS. They run at full speed continuously. Your first photo is a reference image of the motherboard, and you're trying to identify which cable corresponds to which fan. You also noted one cable is 3-pin and another is 4-pin, and you've connected the 3-pin one.
PWM functions only with fans using the usual four-pin connector. The wiring layout for those four-pin headers on motherboards and fans is: Voltage | GROUND | RPM Sensor | PWM Signal The three-pin fans don’t support PWM, they provide Voltage | GROUND | RPM Sensor These fans use a unique connector, not a standard one. The header below the IN VDG label appears to be an addressable RGB connector, likely for the fan’s LEDs. The IN VDG might carry data and ground only, possibly for a custom controller with that smaller header. The 12V, ground, RPM sensors and maybe PWM wire are probably combined in another connector with two rows of pins—about twelve wires total. I think it’s meant for a custom fan controller, which could come with the case or need to be purchased separately.
the custom fan controller has a built-in fan, and the RGB lighting functions properly. the only connections from it are the pwm and vdg cables, plus a sati male for power. the three wires that connect to the motherboard are the ones you should keep. if you want to change the connector, you could swap the 3-pin to a 4-pin and connect the pwm cable to the sys_fan port.
