I changed the driver for my 4090 to 582.83 a few days back, which let me play at 4k 240Hz briefly. But after restarting the PC, the display settings stopped supporting 4k at that frequency. The * next to 239.97 Hz means choosing it lowers the resolution to around 1440p. It would be really useful if someone could suggest a solution for this issue.

Review these feedback notes carefully and confirm you're connected with a DP1.4a certified cable. If you're using HDMI, the problems likely stem from that. Consider updating your monitor's firmware as well. Additionally, I notice the 239.99 Hz input appears on my secondary 240Hz 4K display.

I reinstalled the driver once more, and 4K at 240Hz is back. I’m using the DP cable that came with the Alienware monitor. A DP 2.1 cable will arrive soon—I’m curious if that solves the problem.

Question remains, as only DP1.4a is available for 4090.

Consider using HDMI on 4090 since HDMI 2.1 offers higher performance compared to DP 1.4a

It might be possible, though it appears the AW3225QF has issues with HDMI cables.

If uncertain, go with DDU. Works smoothly with 4K240 10-bit and DSC over DP1.4.

I changed to a DP 2.1 cable, and the setup now uses 4k 240Hz by default. Therefore, when a monitor claims to support 4k 240Hz, the included cables won’t actually deliver that performance.
