You can view the complete details of my setup in the documentation. Back in 2013, I boosted my CPU to 4.2GHz @ 1.2V after installing it, which was a common practice at the time. Recently, I noticed the performance is quite low, so I started using CPU-Z to check its settings. It turned out the system runs at default speeds instead of the intended turbo. When I checked the BIOS, the multiplier displayed as 42, but both CPU-Z and Task Manager showed it as the stock turbo setting. The challenge was that even after disabling C-States, Intel Speedstep, and Turbo (which resets the multiplier), nothing changed. I also attempted to use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, but it didn’t allow me to adjust the clocks. I returned to the BIOS to set the multiplier to 40, but it still didn’t work. My BIOS is current with the latest release. Temperatures are within acceptable ranges—around 90°C during stress tests and up to 70°C in games. What might be affecting this, and how can I resolve it?
It seems like you're referring to a vintage component. Could you clarify if you'd like advice on repairing or replacing it?
I can see that the temps are not as good as they used to be, but they're still fine. Could it really be the reason the multiplier doesn't stick in Windows? Doesn't really sound right to me to be honest.
It looks like Intel’s internal solution isn’t working, so something physical might be the issue—like VRMs or PSU not delivering enough voltage. The motherboard may also struggle to supply consistent power. First, try cooling the CPU with fresh thermal paste and observe the behavior. Keep an eye on things and let others with more experience in overclocking provide further insights.
That's not possible. I've tested a 3570K at unsafe voltages throughout its lifespan and it functioned flawlessly. Your problem likely lies in the BIOS—reset the CMOS a few times.
The CMOS reset wasn't effective. I'm still checking stock performance.
