Not increasing the value anymore?
I previously upgraded from a 1600x to a 2700x and thought about making some changes myself, but after using afterburner, it kept boosting to around 4.2 GHz during games. That worked for me, so I didn’t tweak it further. Now I see some frame drops and noticed the CPU seems to hit a limit at 3950, yet no settings were changed. Could an update have affected this behavior? I’m not sure what’s going on.
The 2700X features a base clock speed of 3.7 GHz, which means seeing 3950 indicates continued performance enhancement. Ryzen boost settings are influenced by several variables such as temperature, thread count, power limits, and more. The 4.2 GHz boost is probably a single-thread increase when the CPU was idle except for that one thread. Certain games operate with just a single thread, while others utilize multiple threads. When running under multi-threaded conditions, temperatures rise and power usage increases, leading to reduced boost performance. You might want to test single-core and multi-core modes in Cinebench to compare results. In single-core mode, avoid background processes that could mimic multi-thread activity.
