Hello, I’ve assembled several PCs before, so when it comes to getting my latest MSI x570 Prestige up and running, I’m confused about why it won’t turn on. My PSU is an EVGA SuperNova G2, roughly two years old, and it worked perfectly with my previous motherboard yesterday. The CPU is a 2700x, the GPU is the original EVGA 3080, there are five fans, and a Noctua NH-D15 heat sink is installed. When I connect the power and flip the on switch, the motherboard lights up, but when I turn on the case’s power button it makes a clicking sound and then nothing happens. This click seems to happen only when the power cable is unplugged and plugged back in. After pressing the case button twice after plugging in the power cable, the first press makes a click and the second one is silent. I’ve verified the CPU connection, all cables seem properly connected, even after removing extra power cords, and only the PSU is linked to the board, yet the issue persists. I’m trying to figure out if the problem lies with the PSU or the motherboard, or if there’s a connection error. Any advice or help regarding this motherboard would be really appreciated.
I don’t understand the wattage of your PSU, but if it’s under 750w I think overdraw protection might be activating. I’ve heard some people say you can go up to 1000w, and maybe it’s just a safety feature in case of an anti-short issue. The PSU doesn’t communicate directly with the software.
