Not available for encryption using built-in tools.
Hello. I've been wanting to encrypt some files to protect them from being stolen but the built-in Windows utility is greyed out when I go to encrypt them. Can anyone figure out why? The only way I can encrypt is by using Microsoft word and that's with the Password Protection feature, for all files, I don't feel like using Microsoft Word Here's what I see when going to encrypt a .txt file containing important information. Help is appreciated, thanks.
Downloading 7zip allows you to secure files through encryption.
7 zip works well, use it. However, I prefer it to close automatically once finished instead of requiring manual steps, since that would be too much effort. With my DPI, I’d only need to move the mouse a couple of centimeters, but it’s still quite a lot of work.
Encrypt just one file with full protection. When needed, unlock it using a password. Avoid encrypting the entire disk and keep the operating system accessible via a password.
You have the flexibility to build an encrypted container of any size and store files inside. You don’t have to encrypt the entire disk, though you can if needed. An alternative method involves using GPG (GPG4Win), which is a bit more complex to operate.
