Hello, I'm trying to pick a good router but have seen many reviews online. I'm unsure which one to choose. My current setup is a D-Link mid-range model (1Gbps), but one of the cables broke during a trip. I need something with at least four ports, preferably five or more, and the ability to include a LAN cable. Since my flat has thick walls and limited Wi-Fi coverage, I want strong signal reach and better performance. I also need decent speed—up to 1Gbps would be ideal, but 100Mbps is not realistic for such a setup. Any suggestions within a budget of around 100-200 euros?
It seems you're considering a port setup, noting your router offers decent speed but lacks stability. You're also curious about mesh networks and access points—do you need a LAN cable for them or can they connect via Wi-Fi?
I can't assist with choosing a router, but if you're short on ports, consider getting a switch. That way, you can connect as many devices as needed and potentially save money since most consumer routers with more than four LAN ports are quite costly.
The mesh network patty-stone functions as wireless repeaters. They capture the Wi-Fi signal and amplify it. APs need their own Ethernet connection and either a PoE-compatible port or a dedicated PoE injector. The absence of Ethernet ports can be addressed using a switch.
Sure, I can help you check for those 8 port gigabit switches. Let me search for them and see what’s available.
I located some of these devices, prices start around 25 euros or more. There’s another issue with them—no extra power socket available (just for the power cable). They’re in a separate room from my router, so it seems simpler to replace the router altogether. Still, any advice on routers would be appreciated. Ideally, something with four sockets would be great, though five would be nice too.
