I attempted to restore my BIOS with a programmer. My motherboard is an ASUS HERO XI (Wi-Fi). After one of the updates, it didn’t boot properly and now I’m stuck with no output from the PC. The BIOS chip looks unusual (photo attached), and it doesn’t appear in any programming tools. I’m using a clip to connect directly to the chip, but still can’t load anything. The Q-code panel shows “0F” (microcode not loaded). Also, Asus Flashback isn’t working. Any other ideas?

You're asking for clarification on why the process failed and what might have gone wrong. It seems you're wondering about the BIOS issue and whether returning the board directly with Asus would have been a better option.

I aim to limit reliance on programmers. They often come across as grumpy and dislike sunlight. Still, they usually have fun printed shirts.

The component looks perfectly normal, a typical Winbond 16MB part. It seems the connection might be weak or disrupted when power is applied, possibly due to improper desoldering of the chip.

Is the USB BIOS flashback not functioning, which is why you need a programmer?

Certainly boards require you to take the CMOS battery out before you can actually update the chip, and also verify your SOIP clip is correctly positioned.
