I’ve been getting the most out of my PC after upgrading to a 12900k system on the gigabyte z690 UD DDR4 MB. However, I’m still dealing with an old PSU thermaltake 1000w titanium and a 1080ti which is making the fans run quite loud and sometimes stops occasionally, though it seemed fine at first.
My case is also quite old, so the wiring might be the issue.
About a week ago, my power button stopped working gradually. Yesterday it completely failed. I was curious about this and tried resetting the IO pins on my case—it didn’t work. Then I used the built-in button on my motherboard (probably via q-flash) and it turned on after about two seconds. After turning off the PC, I powered it back on, then turned it off again and booted in, then off, and then back on, this time getting Windows.
Since then, I’ve been unable to get it to boot again. I’ve re-soldered most of my components and also reset the CMOS.
There’s USB power visible through the keyboard lights, but the motherboard shows no power signal and the q-flash button is non-functional.
I’m starting to think the wiring in the case might be the problem now.

I accidentally kept pressing the power button, then it restarted, turned off, and came back on with Windows.

Take the case away from the motherboard entirely. Turn it on using a screwdriver. Examine this first and avoid any electric shock. Check whether the issue exists when the case is fully removed. If it does, you can try a separate power button and turn it on then.

if seogoat's suggestion is valid;
based on the manufacturer and/or case age, you might reach out to the case maker to ask for a replacement power button instead of buying a new one.
this ensures you can fit it correctly again.
i've experienced some issues over time, and support often sent another unit even if it was still under warranty.

I plan to attempt this tomorrow since I depend on my PC for my studies right now. I’m hoping it’ll be as straightforward as a wire issue.

I own a NZXT case from roughly 2015, and it's finally time for an upgrade. I've always appreciated their support, especially when they sent me a package of goodies after a broken screw haha.

It's not worth trying to run a PSU that's near the end of its life. Your entire system depends on it, and using it could lead to issues when adding new hardware.

Additionally, you may connect the reset switch to the power switch pins on the motherboard and utilize the reset switch to activate it.

Sure, I'll make sure to keep it the same length and structure while changing the wording.
