It's been quite some time since I assembled everything from scratch, and I really want fresh perspectives. My motherboard (Gigabyte B660) sets my RAM to 2133 instead of the recommended 3200. The CPU is an Intel i5-12600k and there’s no GPU. I’m using dual-channel mode and tried activating the XMP profile in BIOS, but it just starts a boot loop. I’ve also used Gigabyte’s software to adjust it, but nothing changed. The BIOS is up-to-date, and the site says my RAM works fine. I think I might have overlooked something important. This setup is for a new Plex installation to upgrade my old, basic system.

No, I haven't adjusted the RAM clock speed myself.

I've tested both slot combinations and it's still the same issue.

I adjusted the clock speed using the gigabyte software in Windows, but couldn't do it via BIOS yet. I felt a bit frustrated when trying to enable the XMP profile, as it caused the BIOS loop. Then I considered changing the voltage settings, though I haven't tried that before.

I’d definitely connect via the motherboard, not through software. Try adjusting manually to 3200mhz, or check the XMP profile (a BIOS typically offers two), and see if either works. I’m not sure if your board has 2 or 4 RAM slots, but if it has four, make sure to use slots 1 and 3 (closest to the CPU) for dual-channel performance.

I only received the choice of XMP profile 1, which seems suitable for 3200. I plan to adjust it manually to check the results. For the slots, I have four options and have tried both pairs, but it appears that for my A2 and B2 (positions 2&4) dual channel setup is preferred.

I figured it out. As you mentioned, it was a simple mistake. A faulty module. I checked each stick individually—one with XMP enabled and the other didn’t post at all but appeared in the total size list. Thanks to everyone! Now I just need to visit MicroCenter for the exchange.
