noob question but i still need to ask it.
I manage a Rust and Valheim server at home and just changed my ISP's connection. I installed a new router and set up port forwarding as before. When I checked my public IP online, it showed 208.38.225.50, but my router displays a different external IP. I'm unsure which address to share with visitors. The search result IP isn't reliable, and the external one doesn't work either. What should I use instead?
I faced the same issue with my Minecraft server where my public IP changed compared to what my router displayed. I don’t share my public IP, so you might be experiencing a similar situation. Check out my previous post for more details. It would be helpful if you take the time to read it thoroughly. While I’m not an expert on networking jargon, my explanation should clarify what’s happening.
Your router's WAN IP falls within the 100.64.x.x to 100.127.x.x range or 10.x.x.x, meaning it's behind CG-NAT and port forwarding isn't possible.
Yes, this refers to CG-NAT. The main option is contacting your ISP to inquire about obtaining a dedicated public IP address.
