I recently purchased a new motherboard, the Gigabyte Z790 UD AC, and I'm experiencing noticeable coil whine. It alternates in and out, making the noise more bothersome than a steady hum. I tried adjusting the Acoustic Noise Mitigation in my BIOS, but there are two slew rate options—2x-16x. I’d appreciate any guidance on what each setting does before I make changes.

I can clearly verify that it affects sound from the motherboard. I experimented with various configurations and it significantly reduced coil whine, making it nearly imperceptible. However, I haven’t identified any drawbacks or unintended consequences. Running 3D Mark before and after showed no change in the score.

You adjusted the settings to x8 and x16, but the coil whine persisted. You're considering switching to x2 or x4 and are thinking about disabling C states, though you're still unsure.

I used x8 and it works well in my situation, though not perfect. In a typical office setting like working on Windows, it doesn’t stand out. Under heavy use it gets worse sometimes, but not constantly.
