Hey there! I've noticed my laptop making loud grinding sounds lately. The issue keeps getting worse, and the only solution is turning it off. It seems like a fan problem, especially since it's not too old. Anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this or how to fix it? Thanks! PXL_20241112_012457993
Hi there. You're right about it being a fan. Whether it's worn out or has contact with the blades, only opening the laptop will give you a clue. From the sound alone, I'd probably wager on the latter. I haven't had to swap a laptop fan before—I'm not sure how well a generic replacement would fit—but I think you should be able to locate one.
I didn’t respond right away because it took time to open it, but the inside was extremely dusty—it’s crazy. There were pieces of dust in the fan exhaust, probably from things that sometimes came loose. After cleaning, the noise stopped completely.
