Noise from the coil during setup of a new PC build
Have you tried adjusting settings in the BIOS? You might also look into hardware modifications or firmware updates for the motherboard. Your components—Asus Prime Z590-P, i7-11700, and EVGA RTX 3070—are all compatible, but addressing the coil whine could improve performance and sound quality.
Identify the power supply first by checking the motherboard, PSU, or GPU. Because your CPU has built-in graphics, test without the GPU. If only high FPS gaming causes issues, it likely isn't working. You can also listen to the VRM on the GPU, PSU, and motherboard to determine which is making the noise. It might be simpler to remove the components from the case for this. Your PC seems to have a problem too; I believe the motherboard is the main issue, and the GPU makes it worse. The PSU might be responsible for the whine coming out through your 3.5mm jack. In severe cases like yours, all three parts could be affected.
I haven't even played games yet; I just completed the Windows update and installed it for the first time. The GPU looks identical to my previous setup, so I think the issue might be with the motherboard.
From what I understand, the problem might be with the motherboard and power supply. This same power supply worked in my earlier build without this issue. I’ve heard sometimes the problem can resolve itself over time—do you know if that’s possible? I also have other concerns, like a case fan not working and the PC refusing to boot when changing RAM speeds above 2133MHz (it’s 3200MHz on the board but claims support without OC).
It might still be related to the power supply unit. Often the problem stems from multiple parts working together. The noise varies between your RX 5500 XT and Be Quiet PSU—acceptable with the RMx but loud with the Be Quiet. The source is clearly the PSU in the Be Quiet setup with your 2060. I wouldn’t rule it out entirely, as it could involve other components. However, it seems more likely a motherboard or CPU issue. Have you checked for BIOS updates? If you can still bring the CPU and motherboard back, do that. A faster 12th gen CPU would be better and might reduce the whine. You could wait a few days to observe changes, but keep in mind not all companies accept this as a return reason.
