Hello, I hope everything is alright that I’m sharing this here, I really need some assistance.
I’m experiencing high-pitched interference sounds coming through my microphone input (others can hear it, and I can also hear it in voice recordings).
I assumed the problem was with the headset (PC360), so I purchased a brand new PC38X, but the issue persists with both headsets.
It generates a whining noise when I connect them via the rear motherboard Green & Pink 3.5mm ports, and it also occurs in the front 3.5mm ports. The motherboard model is MSI Z390-A Pro.
I’ve used a Sabrent USB adapter (link below), but instead of the interference, it turns into a constant buzzing sound.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sabrent-Externa...B00IRVQ0F8
The headphone audio works fine; only the microphone is affected.
I removed my graphics card because it was the latest addition to the PC, but the problem continues.
Edit: The PC38X has an optional TRRS jack, so I recorded a voice on my phone and everything was clear and clean. This confirms it’s a PC-related issue.
Things I tested tonight:
- Voice recording with the PC38X on my phone – works perfectly, confirming the headsets aren’t the cause.
- Restored to an older Realtek driver.
- Disabled XMP in BIOS.
- Unplugged all system fans and CPU fan.
- Disconnected all other peripherals.
- Removed the graphics card completely.
- Used a different power surge protector.
- Plugged the computer at the opposite end of the house.
- Tested with another reliable power supply (650w) and a different cable.
These steps suggest the problem might be with the motherboard. Would buying an external DAC help?
Are there any tests I could perform to identify the cause, or would replacing the DAC or sound card resolve the interference?

Test the headset on a different functional computer or audio equipment. Check if the whine remains with your computer or moves with the PC360 headset.

Hi,
The PC38X supports an optional TRRS jack, which is why the recording from my phone came out perfectly clear and crisp. Definitely PC-related.

Curious about the optional TRRS jack?
Check out this guide: https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/under...dio-jacks/
Inspect the various connectors and ports.
It might cause a compatibility issue.

Both devices use green and pink 3.5mm TRS cables, and I'm connecting them into the green and pink audio outputs on my motherboard, though I wasn't sure those colors meant TRRS there.

Motherboard manual details are available at the provided link. Audio port setup instructions begin on the physically numbered page 20. Refer to pages 21 and 22 for additional configuration guidance. At the bottom of page 21, it states: "Each jack corresponds to its default setting as shown on the next page. Important The pictures above for reference only and may vary from the product you purchased."

I'm connecting my green (headphone) and pink (microphone) to the right ports according to that Manual.
Things I've tried tonight:
Voice recording with the PC38X on my phone - works perfectly, confirms the headsets aren't the issue
Switched back to an older Realtek driver
Disabled XMP in bios
Unplugged all system fans and CPU fan
Unplugged all other peripherals
Removed the graphics card completely
Used a different power surge protector
Plugged the computer on the opposite side of the house
Tested with another reliable Power Supply Unit (650w) and a different power cable
This leads me to think the motherboard might be the problem. If I buy an external DAC, will that fix it?
