Noctua NH-U14s 3570K temps
Noctua NH-U14s 3570K temps
Hello,
I recently swapped my CPU cooler from a Hyper 212 EVO to a Noctua NH-U14s. I cleaned the heatsink and CPU thoroughly using arctic cleaner and applied thermal paste with the pea method. Despite these efforts, I’m seeing temperatures higher than before. The Evo could maintain a 4.4GHz clock at +0.004 turbo and +0.005 offset at 85 degrees in the Intel Burn Test. But with the Noctua installed, the peak reached 89 degrees during that overclock, so I had to lower the clock. Now it’s running at 4.3GHz with a turbo voltage of +0.004 and -0.035 offset. This causes the IBT to reach 80 degrees (on one core, others around 76). It’s unusual since Noctua is marketed as a superior cooler—am I making a mistake? I’ve reapplied thermal paste several times and confirmed the mounting is correct.
One possibility is that you didn't apply enough thermal paste.
Another could be that the cooler wasn't tightly fastened.
A third option is that the fans aren't connected.
Probably the most likely reason.
The cooler might not be secured properly, perhaps the screw wasn’t tightened enough. After installing it, I often gently move it to ensure even spreading.
Absolutely, you're seeing exactly what's going on, aren't you?
AJ Kenway:
There are three possibilities to consider:
1) You didn't apply enough thermal paste.
2) The cooler wasn't fastened properly.
3) The fans aren't connected and aren't operating.
I think we can narrow it down now.
1) Alright, I'll attempt again, but I've already tried several approaches and different paste quantities.
2) The cooler is properly attached, that's confirmed.
3) The fan is linked and functioning at full capacity.
Appreciate the guidance.
If nothing seems to work, I recommend reaching out to Noctua's customer service. That might have bypassed quality control.

I reseated the cooler, and the temperatures are a bit better, though still matching the Hyper 212 Evo.

I've already contacted them, but I'm quite disappointed since I purchased the cooler to push overclocking limits and had to lower it. I'm hoping for a replacement or refund.
