It focuses mainly on the amount I've invested and the number of games that remain unplayed.

If it helps, I own 287 items. Excluding the games my friend is sending me, the total comes to 358. Those budget games add up fast. Still, I think Valve has mentioned before that if Steam ever shuts down, they’ll essentially remove the DRM so you can download your games again.

It's tough to play many titles from the early 2000s or the strange 1995-1998 Windows era. Some of these games are still hard to run today, and we're not talking about games that are over 20 years old—they might disappear completely in half a century.

It's challenging because the game runs smoothly on my system, but I'm still trying to understand how it works.

Planning to stay alive in 2100 seems unlikely—I’d be around 131 years old then. Still, if you can mostly shape reality, I’d expect compatibility features to exist. The MESS project is a good example, preserving software from the 1950s today.

Observe the "some" in my statement: I manage to run certain titles perfectly. Others, unfortunately, don't fit widescreen formats and can be frustratingly hard or impossible to access on them. Some games, like Planescape: Torment, have more hidden problems—functioning properly is only possible at 1080p or even widescreen, but they often crash or stop unexpectedly after a few hours of play. LGR suggested upgrading to an older PC from 2001 or using virtual machines, which adds their own set of challenges.
